You should try Getter Robo Armageddon and Xabungle, since those are the primary inspirations behind Gurren Lagann. I think you'd enjoy them, though Xabungle, being from the early 80s can take some getting used to for someone used to modern anime.

The Armageddon Getter Robo G trio just has a more toned down color palette that doesn't become too dark from the original or lighter than the original
