Also a simple, but effective one would be upon taking "damage" the character would start to inflate.
Also there would be like health upgrades so the character is able to grow bigger before a "game over"

This would mean no one would mind losing ;3

Some parts are just really nasty, especially the lack of checkpoints & variable box items like thieves that rob you!

Thankfully, nabbing copious loot during stages, plus finding the hidden ticket, lets you buy upgrades from shops between levels, mitigating the difficulty.

Okay one more 3DS post for the night uhhh I love the 3D Classic upgrades games got where they just... made old 2D games 3D. Sonic, Kirby, Excite Bike... I'm really tempted to pick up one more but... I already own like multiples of every title already... maybe Kirby or Kid Icarus.
