On a personal note, I always preferred the first opening credit as I found it more dramatic and intriguing. It did not overfocus on the main protagonists. It showed how the story was more about War's demons and their impact on our world.
With different animation, mostly stock footage of Hyakki fighting demons, and Dororo pranking around a snobbish general figure, the second opening shows more focus on the main protagonists than on the main themes of the series; which are war and rebellion against injustice.
