Aoyama was light-skinned with blue hair in the manga. Mia Ikumi did him darker in a beach pic, but that was just him getting a tan, so it was a one-time thing. The darker skin and black hair was an anime coloring change. I'm not sure which coloring the new anime reboot will use.

I especially struggled with Joe's skin tone, since I had envisioned him to be dark-skinned, yet his outfit was also held in mainly dark grays, so I was afraid his features would just get lost. I feel like I pulled it off though.
