Not sure if anyone remembers it, but I still think that FINAL FANTASY: THE SPIRITS WITHIN was a visually stunning and intriguing film for its time. Loved it then, love it now.

So strange. They made the baffling creative choice to go with a hyper-realistic animation style, which makes the dramatic wide shots look great, but all the musical numbers in this SONG movie are visually dull and the penguins' beaks are a horror to look upon.

Visually this is clearly a nod to Dali. Colors from “The Persistence of Memory”, shapes and portrait work from “Galatea of Spheres”, and my take on “Rose Meditative” in the background were all major inspirations in the creative process of this piece.
