I colored this using gradient maps on gray-scale shading. With this method, I don't have to worry about doing the shading over again when I decide to change a color to something else.

Basically, you wanna put a visible line between the two. Right now you have too smooth of a gradient and it's hard to tell where the feathers start and ends.

I tried a few things out and I really like the idea of having a "buzz cut" with feathers surrounding it.

1.) Clean enough sketch: The more clean, the less guess work, the less guess work, the faster the rest will go!

2.) Lines+Shading w/o flats: The flats can confuse me on where to shade so this is just easier for me to see.

3.) Flats+Final touches: Shine, reflect light, gradients

Yes, that's intelligent. What more can you do is make the watermark in a gradient color, so they cannot crop it, like- two colors shaded on your signature. Like the example below✌️
