Yes, Locke and Julie-Su looked less like Knuckles under different penmanship (even if sometimes by only a few margins, it still was noticable and appreciated).

Taking Knuckles and putting a wig, a different color or shade, and/or drawing him with a new wardrobe does not make a different, distinguishable character.

The first echidna is relatively passable, she is different not just in color-wear. The ones in second picture? 😐

I'd argue Julie-Su is more of a "female Knuckles" than Tikal on the basis of how they didn't distinguish their facial features plus pink is a shade of red. If they gave a nuance with her face (i.e., remove defined brows) that differs from Knuckles, then it would do wonders.
