I do shading by blobing off certain details and selecting them so that I don't shade into parts that I already did. Helps me if you're going to spend a lot of time shading. Can also help to invert the selection. Clipping masks are a must-do for me in sai for shading.

Something that helped me out of it was to shift my focus towards learning. I put a lot more effort into learning my tools inside and out. Went overboard on filters lol. I tried diff inks, colors, shading, etc. My style and vibe was all over, but I like a lot of this still. (2013)
