I knew pretty much right away that Soraya needed to be a djinn, since I really resonated with them for multiple reasons. She also needed a ponytail, since I always wear my hair like that. All the other details just evolved as she grew into her own character

When I'm winding down in the evening and doing a piece I tend to do them on a smaller canvas on purpose to make sure I don't spend forever in the details. For example, here's a piece at my usual working size versus the sketch one I did last night.
