I rinse and repeat this untill my eyes bleed, keeping in mind the center is usaully the brightest (and therefore has the largest highlights) while the edges tend to have darker ones.

Ok, so my style of shading uses a paintbrush without pen pressured brush size. In order to control the width of the brush, I use shortcuts to make the brush smaller/larger.

First thing I do is paint a large, very light wash of shading everywhere except the highlighted area

I love both Xenoblade 1 and 2's casts but by allowing the main party in XC3 to be together for 90% of the game, MS provided so many more story opportunities between cast members and better fleshing out of arcs & personal motives. It's a large part of why the cast is so endearing!

Today marks 10 years that my studio has been in existence!
