Trip keeps his hands on his hips & in pockets because trainers resemble their Pokemon and it matches Snivy’s stance.
But I headcanon Shootie/Trip having sensory issues (it goes with keen eyesight & how he complains about Ash’s loud voice), so he’s just more comfortable this way.
