I'll be honest, it's a weird pose, esp. the original. In the orig. image Sonic's upper half is so static (his back is so straight & stiff) and his lower half is so animated - they just don't go together.

In fact, Sonic's design was inspired a lot by rubber hose animation from the 1930's, and the biggest inspirations behind his design were both Felix the cat, and Mickey Mouse...
They're not exactly new concepts, lol.
