Sprited this the way I was told the ZX artists did it in the game, by downscaling the character facial illustrations. So I had to simply draw the face before resizing it, limiting the colors and adding some addec polish.

you can, essentially, create an OC in midjourney by generating a couple of portraits you like (pencil sketches work best), light upscaling them, and feeding all 4 upscaled sketches as image prompts (weight 2x-5x) along with text prompts about costume, posing, art style, etc.
@leptail For the fullscreen stuff in SAI, I wind up taking a high-res image, downscaling it accounting for PAR, and drawing over it. Using the original for reference.
