I know it's not much, but I've been trying to work out the best way to do structures. Thinking a semi-isometric style might work. Tried it out with some ruins to see how it looks. Collisions are going to be a pain :(

The backgrounds in the sidescroller Legend of Zelda CDI games are actual physical paintings by illustrator Rob Dunlavey, with level collision placed over the drawn objects and individually animated water / fire effects. I think it's quite a beautiful and interesting method.

I think it's already been documented, but this airship in the background of Bowser's Star Reactor has collision, and two entry points into the ship that suggest you may have been able to enter it at one point. It even has a fully modeled inside!

Everything in the northern half of the map has no collision but is at least there. Solaceon Ruins/Spiritomb/Tower don't exist and the Battle Zone has a warp but nothing else.

Hurtbreak Collision.

It is still one of the few games on the C64 that I can't technically fault in any way. It's almost flawless. (Though I could do with it being a teeny bit easier.) 😁 Since I don't have those lightning gaming reflexes I had as a kid, I cruised though with collisions turned off. 😉

New banner, and a new shield!

Essentially, the shield is an undead bug, which I've named "Blanket Stinger."
It avoids any collisions with the character's wings, unlike other shields, and can be used as a sheath. Additionally, The stinger can be used paralyzing foes in combat.
