Questionable management aside, Gainax was truly a different beast back then. TWoH came out a year before Char's Counterattack and four years before F91, yet it still outclasses both in terms of details even though it predates them (And both CCA & F91 are gorgeous-looking films!).
this one too! Aina's face is so good!! she'd have her arms crossed in a gainax pose if she wasnt piloting
Honorable mentions: R.O.D. OVA, Every other Gainax/Trigger project Outlaw Star, and Avatar. https://t.co/Qa1AdU6uG2
I still think this trainer card on my Pokemon Shield tops any other card I have made.
I just love that feeling Diebuster / stupid trigger / gainax.
Still, it's hard to beat the epic trio of Chris in the Gainax pose, Tsubasa in the Satsuki pose, and Hibiki Gundam-launching herself in AXZ.

Imaishi was definitely a fan of Gainax’s earlier work, evident by this illustration. Note the angularity, hard black outlines, and frenetic movement, which are all part and parcel of Imaishi’s style.
