Pokemon Facts
In the Pokemon universe, before creating lightbulbs, people used Pikachus in jars. By shaking them enough, the Pikachu's cheeks would start glowing (with more force their whole body will glow)

Also when the lamps broke the Pikachu would usually kill it's owner
