The two techniques I use the most for figuring out designs are "markers first" and quick thumbnails. Both methods allow for free exploration without stressful commitment. I especially love "markers first" because it just feels so loose, allowing me to stay relaxed while thinking.

I think you can pretty clearly tell when I had a clear idea of what I was going for and when I didn't. Granted some of the "just messing around" sketches did turn out really solid. Not like there's a superior method.

Final details for the face. Had to do some more changes on the eyes. I didn't realize they used a method similar to Overwatch for the eyelashes. Kinda satisfied with the way it looks. Got a lot of space to add wrinkles around the eyes, mouth and forehead.
