This week’s @FolkloreThurs theme is fun wordplay —so here is some nonsensical happiness courtesy of the great Edward Lear. I love his self-portrait with his cat! And I’ve never had “gooseberry fool,” but I’m sure my British followers know it well. ☺️📚

I'm so sorry.
I want to start a thing where every #ENVtuber draws their characters as handsome squidward.
Today, May 12, is the birthday of artist and writer #EdwardLear. It's also #NationalLimerickDay! 'The New Vestments,' is a poem in which a man makes an outfit out of odd things, including cabbage leaves, pancakes, biscuits, and a loaf of bread for a hat! https://t.co/4jzs5vWItk
@Tracy_Chevalier Hard to choose, but I've loved The Chamber Idyll by Edward Calvert since art college. I've been lucky enough to see an original print alongside the actual engraving block. It's smaller than a credit card and is one of the most exquisite, sensual pieces of art I know.
Our series “X-ray Reads” explores the artistic process often buried under layers of material! This portrait of "Edward Pierce" by Isaac Fuller has us wondering whose body Pierce’s head is resting on?

Edward Lear, a man of many talents, was born today in 1812. Apart from being a master of nonsense verse, he was also a champion illustrator. Below are his beautiful toucans from ‘Monograph of the Ramphastidae’ in our Collections: https://t.co/CI0uyEc0U6
"The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea
In a beautiful pea-green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five-pound note."
