step two fill in with a color of your choice (im using blue)

the shading will look a bit strange (1), but we can fix that by changing the asset layer to the multiply filter (2)

I want to learn how to paint so badly. I have a base understanding of it, but I don’t want to rely on multiply layers, I want to use a color pallet and build up with layers. I painted this in 2017 following a small tutorial and accidentally included eyelashes

Transparent Pixel Locking on multiply layers has saved my ass SO many times and helps a ton when trying to figure out the angle of a light source halo, or just trying to get a visible depiction of where you can actually apply highlights after you've covered a piece in shadow!

Doesn't save my ass but I love adding this to my final renders:
Duplicate (& combine) lineart layer, blur just a tiny bit, set to multiply & it gives it a neat glow (?)
In progress flat colour with crisp lines vs final render with soft lines

I love the effect of blood using a multiply layer. It’s less bold and a more smooth feeling.

But yeah, I like painting with purple it seems.

i realized that i've doodled ernest more than i have allister but i never colored him before so

also this was actually supposed to be lighting practice but i ended up just slapping a multiply layer over it and calling it a day 🤭

I have a separate Multiply layer with a brush that is supposed to look like organized fur tufts. I use a very saturated blue and change the opacity to what seems right in the moment. i don't use blending but that might change as I use Clip Studio more than Sai

Finding that referencing bones and organs is far more fun than the pinups lately, so behold the wyrm!
More a nuisance than a threat by itself, these flying creatures amplify and feed upon worry and anxiety, using the energy gained to multiply.
