first thing was the original sketch that i did to study the style! i mostly looked at frankie because she's in a similar proportion i wanted zuro to be in. her character is completely outlined as opposed to some of the others, which i assume is to keep her shape readable

Here's the foundation of how I think about light (and composition): everything can be broken down into 2-3 values and still be entirely clear and readable with an obvious focus. These first 3 took 2-4 minutes each and make for a great exercise!

Lastly, Sonic! I originally had just used a sprite right from Advance 3 with some tweaked colors, but I was asked to change the sprite a bit more so he'd look better on the cover. For example, his left arm was moved down so the pose would be more readable.

I personally watched it after kaiji was over, I like the duality of Kaiji and Akagi. Akagi is unreadable and has like 50 plans, always calm, where as Kaiji shows all his emotions, he tends to have plans but they ultimately fail and he's forced to claw his way to victory
