I decided to re-designer her from the ground up, using as a means of coming up with new hairstyle/eye color/specific features to start it off. Like giving her glasses, freckles, a necklace from her lover, and dyed blue parts of her hair ontop of making her entirely pink.

I typically go for a vibe the character gives off. I tend to try and make characters that are siblings or are the same look very similar if not the same or try to replicate what they look non-animaflied (ex: Thomas Sanders compared to someone like Roman or Philza and Tommy)
