After going through all this trouble to model, texture, skin, and rig a simple custom VRChat avatar, I feel even more strongly that 3D artists should be paid at least as well as software engineers in the games industry.

Like, come on. This stuff is hard as hell.

me realizing I could have just animated something in a complex movie-quality rig, convert it to a humanoid rig animation, and then apply it to a simpler, less heavy rig and this is probably standard practice for videos game

Obviously kind of horrifying because there’s no textures but here’s what it looked like. It isn’t a very good model or anything and I couldn’t get it to rig right but it was still a cool learning experience with Blender :)
