日本で一番多い苗字は、『佐藤』さん。
およそ1,870,000人いらっしゃるそうですよ。

1875年の今日、明治政府が「平民苗字必称義務令」を公布し全国民に名字を名乗るよう義務づけた。1870年に平民の名字の公称を許す「平民苗字許可令」が出されたが、新たな課税を警戒して名字を届け出ない人が多かったのだそう。
