I miss conventions mainly because people were forced to listen to me talk about Transformers

If you wanted to buy stuff from me the REAL price was having to listen to me talk about the complex production history of Saturday morning cartoons. The cash was secondary

I wonder if there were other media like X-men where if you knew, you knew, even as a kid watching cartoons.

Not that it had to be all subtle. I feel like most of my friend group as a preteen/teen had Vanyel from Magic's Pawn as an out protagonist in epic fantasy in the 90s.
