Year 5 have created these portraits inspired by the Ancient Egyptians and the work of contemporary artist Alaa Awad @alaafarid222 We have used oil pastels on brown sugar paper and have practised blending oil pastels.

Instead of blending a lot of colors I just did layers of shades and highlights with erasing some highlights to make it blend in together. I think it turn out great!

2. never use blending modes anymore

The temptation to keep blending this is strong. But no. Time to refine and move.
Was thinking I would potentially need some sort of elaborate feathering/blending effect for the Arid/Wet Overlaps but between the map scale and the higher altitude colours being common I think it looks pretty good with more fuss.
I might noodle this effect to see what I can do?
