I use the character sketches from before to vector in the characters. For characters, I tend to use their normal coloring and then 'multiply' a layer color over them to make the lighting correct. Otherwise they would literally be glowing.

4- using an desaturated blue, on a multiply layer i do the shading of the shadows and depth of clothes at best
4.5- and another one for the highlgihts as a overlay layer

5- from there i just delete the solid color layer and disable the greyscale gradient

and bam!

for the eyes, i shade with a low opacity purpleish multiply layer and whatever im feeling that day
for the hair and clothes, i use a similar technique as with skin. i also add in an orange/red reflection from the skin on the dark parts of the clothes and hair closest to the face

July - September: I left Sai 2 for Clip Studio Paint. I stopped using multiply layers and gradients, I also tried thinning my lines a bit and I think it really paid off. I think these are some of my best.
