Today we’re admiring some wonderful fungi woodblock illustrations from the 1920-22 edition of 'Honzo Zufu' by Iwasaki Tsunemasa (1786-1842). As well as being a botanist, entomologist and zoologist, Tsunemasa was a samurai in the service of the Tokugawa shogunate.

Grass Dogs - I’ve been playing around with this idea of elementals in the form of various animals. This one is a bit more abstract but adding grass, moss and fungi… As well as a bulb for the head has been a lot of fooling around and playing with this idea.
