I just discovered this beautiful story last night about Finnish folklore and the origin of fox fires/auroras, and I BLAZED through the entire thing in a day.
(This doesn't actually happen in the story, just a fan theory I've seen.)
The real seed of the series Hilda came from me wanting to do something that drew on Scandinavian folklore. I wanted a character who was very positive & who would get caught up in adventures as a result of her own curiosity, empathy or sense of responsibility.
