It definitely seems like they want to expand, be it to a younger age or to certain regions. But Legends of Runeterra solved this by redesigning Thresh in a way that, while not as cool as the original imo, was still strongly remeniscent of the design people loved.

My for a regional variant of Feraligatr
Ahmzian Feraligatr is a Grass/Electric type and is significantly shorter than regular Feraligatr.
It's still a strong swimmer and lives in swamps despite the lack of Water typing.
