From first design to final. Our main boys Alistair & Fergus went through quite the journey. We decided, against the desperate pleas of our wonderful & patient team, to go with an unlined animation style + shadows. Is it a bit bonkers? Maybe. Does it look beautiful? Absolutely.

This is Marlowe, my Urban Shadows wizard. They're actually the Elizabethan playwright Christopher Marlowe, trained as a wizard by Merlin himself. Now they're a beach bum in a fictional Californian island city where they monitor a magical prison and make tourist-trap charms.

Looking at the shadows and line placements, you can see that the camera was placed below Bowser. His head is tilted down which is why there's a flat area of highlight on his face.
