how i color my eyes in 4 steps i guess

1. basic color
2. add pupil
3. use a multiply layer to add shadow across top
4. use luminosity layers to add highlights, then white above the lineart for light shines; don't forgot to color in the tear duct

Steps 9-10

We can go as far as we want at the rendering stage. I create highlights along the line of wherever a creature breaks the water's surface to make it clear and readable, and do some noodling with small brushes to finish it off!

The ripples form in patterns based on movement that we can see in a lot of references! Also, I didn't mention it here but I blend out the shadows to soften them.

Painting the light patterns feels complex at first, but it forms a repeating pattern of interlocking triangles & diamonds that we can replicate with soft brushes!
