One of the things we see in the charts from yesterday is the eventual lessening of armour around the 1600s.
Some say this is due to the effectiveness of crossbows, but crossbows were common by the 12th century.
A more likely culprit is early firearms; the hand cannon or arquebus.
Day 4 of my #MedievalSicilian food-themed #Advent2020.
Today, we're talking about cassata, a signature Sicilian cake filled with ricotta. In the Middle Ages, though, cassata was a savory cheese pie, not a dessert! The earliest mentions of sweet cassata date to the 1600s.

Watching baseball w/@BaseballBrit who has introduced me to the wonderful music and style of @raywalkerjoshua. Mr Walker's look reminds me of a favourite painter of mine~Diego Velazquez, Spanish court painter during the 1600s (Portrait of Philip IV below). Check it out! 👊😎🎵
@HAUNTSTORY I need to draw her some more, but this be the new one of the bunch; 'Chronic'.
She's a wrath demon who died at the hand of witch hunters that burned her at the stake in the 1600s, given that she was in fact a witch and responsible for the outbreak of the plague at that time.
