His works of the late 1840s led to the art of the PRB. Noah’s Sacrifice (1847-53), Scene from Ben Johnson’s ‘Every Man in his Humour’ (1847-8) & Cardinal Wolsey (c1850)

Parents woken by their Baby (1838), Workmen on the Street (1838-40), A Nasty Cold in the Head (1839) & the Beautiful Narcissus (c1840s). I love the timelessness of his sleep deprived parents & the ludicrous figure of Narcissus.
Watts submitted a drawing for the Houses of Parliament & won a prize in 1843 & a bursary. This allowed him to travel to Italy. Lady Holland (c1843-4), The Golden Age (1840) & Fiesole, Tuscany (1840s)
Today, some views of Church Street in Cromer... Rev William Sharpe in the 1850s; the 'Narrows' in the 1840s; 1885; 1890,
In episode 18, Nephrite's yōma is called Jumeau. This is a reference to Jumeau, the French bisque doll company that started in the early 1840s. #SailorMoon #SailorMoonTrivia

More of a force than a mythological creature, in Irish mythology, hungry grass/féar gortach is a patch of cursed grass! Also known as fairy grass, anyone walking on it is doomed to perpetual & insatiable hunger! Not known if this dates to 1840s famine or older! #FolkloreThursday

Yesterday we were presented the Needham egg collection -an interesting, data-rich series of 600+ clutches collected between the 1840s and mid 20th century. Almost all the eggs have detail provenance e.g Corn Bunting collected in Climping, West Sussex on 1 July 1938 #ornithology

Both watching and listening to 'Dombey and Son', and was seized with an urge to draw un-sensible 1840s ringlets. So here is Florence, done very quickly before bed. 💜
