Mary Poppins author P L Travers born 1899. But did you know the iconic illustrations were by Mary Shepard, PUNCH artist E H Shepard's daughter. Mary married PUNCH's editor E V Knox in 1937 and he posed for the pictures of Mr Banks in later Poppins books.
