Even in these remakes AlphaDream were still experimenting with new kinds of gameplay and developing characters like Bowser Jr. in ways Nintendo never has. They cared deeply about the Mario world, all the characters and their emotions.

To add one more thing, yes they mostly made games for Nintendo so maybe Nintendo can some how save them from this, give them a push, they did it before with Platinum Games with Bayonetta 2 and with 3 so I hope they can do the same for AlphaDream, if not then I hope for the best
