Girl's fashion was inspired by the Aesthetic movement, especially the drawings of Kate Greenaway. The dresses were loose and high-waisted so children could move freely. Smocking (gathering in the form of pleats) was popular as it was associated with innocence. So pretty! 😍

In Kate Greenaway's wonderful work, you will find an enchanting floral glossary of flowers and their meanings for covert communication. A beautiful insight into the Victorian era, when the gift of a four-leaf clover meant 'be mine'. https://t.co/o8uPZzPhFV

In 1884, Kate Greenaway published “Language of Flowers.” In it she deftly explored & drew floral lore: from a daisy’s innocence to the sense of virtue in a garland of roses. Her art pointed to the Georgian era, but she also hinted at life’s hardships. 🌷#MythologyMonday

Today, selling 100,000 copies of a children’s book is rare.

This artist did it… with her first book… while battling misogyny… 140 years ago.

Here is our post on Kate Greenaway. https://t.co/tuJXrp1C9w
