Our first character in this world we're introduced to is Mark Heathcliff! A radio station runner in Mandela County, in hiding ever since his supposed "death". Turns out, alternates can pretend to be much more than just living people...

I noticed this behavior with Heathcliff

Heathcliff: Do you want to see my little boy? 🎶 Here he comes!
He came in early, as the educated gentleman that he is. He is soft, as the soft boi that he is.
He is huggable, as the soft plushie that he is. I love everything about him even my family likes him.

this fucking heathcliff comic

If Far Side is a modern comic, Heathcliff is anti-modern. I'd call it postmodern if "mythopoetic", "spiritual", or "hermeneutical" didn't feel like a better fit.

The birds here are simply... describing the world. More than that, describing a habitual fact about it.

Even "punchliney" Heathcliff strips tend to be like this: referencing a bizarre part of the world of Heathcliff. It's almost hermeneutical in this way-- a text more like an oral tradition than a written comic in the way it cares about itself.

Did a study in Heathcliff tonight. He’s the only thing I’ve felt the urge to draw recently
