Finally saw this 6th-c masterpiece in person. A life-size guardian deity by a rock-cut Buddhist chapel, with Sassanian-Persian style headdress, a cow under his feet & a trident in his hand, recalling Hindu god Shiva. Yet he’s labeled as ”Spirit King of Narayana”-avatar of Vishnu.
