watched Patlabor The Movie (1989) last night. one of the all-time greats; a movie deeply concerned with the ahistorical destruction & waste of the bubble economy that could only be produced at its peak (year after Akira). Oshii flexing his chops as a director in every shot. A+++

Pretty important since both Yamashita and Hirotoshi Sano worked on Venus Wars, and you can see how their effects changed from then on in Patlabor TV & 0083, in a way that combines extremely dense round smoke & spiky shapes that recall their origins as Kanada-style artists

On the 25th of April 1988, the very first Patlabor OVA (The Early Days) was released. Based on the manga by Masami Yuki, the OVA series proved popular enough to spawn an entire franchise filled with media such as a TV series, movies & video games.

My favorite is "Cowboy Bebop". It's 25 minutes per episode, but I'm satisfied when I saw a movie. That's episode 50.

I like robot anime. "Mobile Police Patlabor "is the highest in terms of description. The retro atmosphere of the80s is good.
