Hephaestus, god of the forge, was simple to work with.
Hermes demanded complexity to avoid a direct copy of iconography used by health services
Dionysus has a staff, complete with acorns, a grape vine, and theatre masks.
Zagreus, son of Hades and Persephone, gets his own crown

Athena is straightforward - a spear, and a shield to represent Aegis
Persephone, Queen of the Underworld, is granted a crown completed with pomegranate seeds, and a sceptre
Apollo and Artemis, the twins of the sun and moon, come with a lyre and a bow, respectively

Gather Ye Rosebuds While Ye May (1909) by J. W. Waterhouse (1849-1917). Inspired directly by a poem [Robert Herrick], it may also have been inspired by the myth of Persephone, daughter of a Harvest Goddess. Abducted by Hades (king of the underworld) when picking flowers.

Today is the saddest day of the year, and we represent it with Demeter's sadness when Persephone, her daughter, returns to the Underworld with Hades.

I recently reshot this painting after learning how to actually use my camera, so here is a true representation of the original.
