In my first year of uni we had to design/animate stuff from books. I picked "The Masque of the Red De" by Edger Allen Poe. My interpretation was the man was really lonely and when he sees the Red De he accpects her. Red death takes pity on him and takes him gently.

I don't think so. It's not guaranteed. Another option people have mentioned is Poe. There's a feather in the silhouette too which makes me think it could be (as poe has one too)
