Pato crestón / crested duck (_Lophonetta specularioides_)

day 5: mirrored
This one is a little bit forced. The species name "specularioides" derives from latin word "speculum", a mirror. This name was given in reference to its speculum

5. Mirrored. Have had a massive artistic block for a few weeks. Using sciartseptember prompts for creative inspiration for quick sketches. Hopefully I can merge them into one large cohesive image.

Day 4 of - "Schooling". Clown loaches tend to live in groups of atleast 6!

2 20

Off theme but 1. Survivor, 2 Monstrous, 3. Captive, 4. Schooling. Had to play quick catch up today. Will try and fit all 30 images onto this page.

Day 3 of is Captive, so I sketched one of my (captive) leaf insect gals! She ended up becoming a red colour morph even though her mum was not ❤️💚

day 3 prompt ‘captive’ Sea otters roll themselves up in kelp fronds to safely nap without floating out to sea.

Day 3 of - "Captive". Faced with near to total extinction in the wild, Panama Golden Frogs live on under human care.

day 2
“Jeremy Wade’s catch is taken by a real
Rhizodus hibberti
The scariest fresh water fish ever known to science. This monstrous lob-finned fish was 7m long and had some ridiculous 9 inches fangs half-buried in their 1m long jaws.

Day 2 of and the theme is “monstrous”. Quick doodle of a Dunkleosteus, a classic “monster fish” from the late Devonian.

3 23

The prompt is “monstrous” so I’m sharing my Opabinia. I might not have thought of a 7 cm, long-extinct creature as monstrous, but a friend saw my sketch & asked nervously about it, so I imagine being smaller and meeting the 5-eyed critter with a clawed proboscis!

8 30

Happy Todays theme was survivor and these guys were recently downgraded from endangered to threatened! Long way to go but still good news for the 🐌

These are named for the dark band that runs along the “shoulder” of their shell

2 14

It’s and the first prompt is survivor - so here’s the virtually indestructible tardigrade! Linocut print of everyone's favorite extraordinary, micro-animal who can survive extremes: the tardigrade, also known as the water bear, also known as the moss piglet.

Enjoy this porcelain crab linocut for & & which I made for this year. The porcelain crab, is 1 of at least 5 groups of decapod crustaceans which have evolved to be more crab-shaped in a process known as carsinisation.

Day 31: Thank you ♥

I really enjoyed this little challenge and like to thank and for hosting - and everyone who participated!
And, of course, thank you to all the people who like and share my work. This means a lot to me!
