Toally agreed. I was lucky - I got to share the films that shaped my love of character design to several years of animation students. No Disney to be seen - Studio Topcraft and Fantastic Planet were required viewing, though.

Topcraft was an animation contractor company that Rankin Bass used for things like Thundercats. You can see similarities of character design between their different projects. (The Hobbit & Thundercats.) Hayao Miyazaki started there.
