They spread life, sow landscapes and fertilize our pantries. Without them, nothing. Nothing at all.

Its WORLD BEE DAY.
My favourite creatures ever! 🐝 💛
We must protect them, plant things to help sustain them & not use nasty chemicals that kill them!
We need them more than they need us!

It’s & while I am a huge fan of honey, honeybees are actually an introduced agricultural species here, & native bees deserve our attention.

The rusty-patched bumble was common here in Ontario as recently as 1980s. Now endangered in US & Species at Risk in Canada

Happy World Bee Day!!

“Mr Buzzy Bee is working
To be the best that he can be
Making honey sweet and runny
From nectar he collects for free.

Oh wonderful Mr Buzzy Bee
With everything you do
You’re such a special worker
And for that, we all thank you!”

It is so we just had to share these beautiful watercolours from David Waterson's Hymenoptera of Angus (MS 78). Love the details and accompanying notes in this wonderful collection.

Apollo seduced Cyrene and she gave birth to a son named Aristeus. He was taken by Hermes and raised on nectar and ambrosia. The gods made him immortal and taught him the rustic arts. Aristeus became the god of beekeeping and taught humans to keep bees. 🐝 🍯

Reminder this to help protect our bees!
Some easy ways to protect bees is by not using harmful pesticides, supporting local beekeepers and planting nector bearing flowers!
