If you want to know who the DS1/DeS equivalent to Yuzo Kojima is, that would be Makoto Satoh, who still holds a prominent environment/art direction position since DS1, and cut his teeth doing 2D art direction for Lost Kingdoms.

He's the main reason why DS2 looks so radically different from DeS/DS1 (which he didn't work on). Evergrace and Forever Kingdom were his passion projects in the 2000s, and since being promoted to Project Manager on DS2, he's been revisiting that game aesthetically.
