Aconitum (Wolf's-bane/Devil's Helmet) is a genus of 250 species of flowering plants belonging to the family Ranunculaceae. In his poem 'Metamorphoses', Ovid tells how the herb comes from the mouth of Cerberus, the three-headed dog that guarded the gates of Hades.

Pyramus and Thisbe were a pair of ill-fated lovers. The story is part of Ovid's "Metamorphoses". Because of a family feud they were forbidden to wed or to see each other, so they whispered through a crack in the wall.

In the "Odyssey" of Homer Scylla is a scary monster, that kills sailors. In Ovids "Metamorphoses" however Scylla is a nymph and in love with the sea god Glaukos. Because of jealousy the sorceress Circe transforms her into a monster.

From Ovid's 'Metamorphoses', the story of the nymph Echo and Narcissus is well known. She was in love with him but he was only in love with his own reflection. She faded to an echo and he turned into a flower.
