I prefer slightly more detailed/more defined styles where the nose and nostrils are outlined. Manga references are: Berserk, Ajin Demi-Human, Monster. The last picture is from my own comic. So you can see it's just a personal preference of mine to draw more defined noses.

i think giving him a mouth and making his ears just some head decor is fine. it's not like transformers need mouths anyway, and especially not noses. Redesigning wheeljack is fine actually
