I think there's a pattern I subconsciously developed when designing my characters.
@nemojona It's kinda random for me hehe
but it does follow some patterns
1. First will be some common shade,paint it until you are satisfied with it
2. Add some random line to add some complexity

Buildings in large BGs can be broken down into several blocks too. Imagine a box or other shapes with the windows+texture as a wrapper, then you line them up in a floor plan
