There are two main components to each monster hunter game. The monsters, and the gameplay. I feel that while Rise still hits the monster component well it really shifts away from the previous games too hard in the gameplay and player progression.

Gurren Lagann is a mishmash of every thing in media I like executed incredibly well. Mechs, cute girls, comedy, timeskips, grand scale fights and a really cool way to show power progression. In my opinion the best gateway anime.
