When I make DnD characters I try to base them on actual real world culture, at least as a starting point. Ollie is russian and Demetria is greek.

You're welcome to it. I never fault anyone for what they like. For me, it completely missed the whole point of the character, even in terms of how that show wrote him. Had they reinterpreted him *internally* as well, then maybe.
